Lifelong Health & Wellbeing
Lifelong Health and Wellbeing (LLHW) is a cross-council initiative established to meet the challenges and opportunities of an ageing population. The LLHW programme supports research addressing factors throughout life that influence health and wellbeing in older age.
LLHW is working towards a healthy future for our ageing society. Read about our strategy and priorities.
Between 2008 and 2015, the LLHW programme committed £51m supporting multidisciplinary ageing research to meet the challenges and opportunities of an ageing population. Through LLHW, the Research Councils facilitated new multidisciplinary research collaborations, built capacity, and worked with a wide variety of cross-sector stakeholders to raise the profile of ageing research in the UK.
Whilst ageing research remains a priority for the Research Councils, the LLHW programme closed at the end of March 2015.

Applications for funding should be via response mode to the most appropriate Research Council. Multidisciplinary ageing research will continue to be supported under the cross-Council Concordat, which allows us to share peer review and funding with other Research Councils.
