Medical Research Foundation: The history of the MRCís charity
The MRC has been eligible to accept charitable bequests and donations since its inception and these donations from the public have been supporting additional medical research for over 80 years.
In the late 1960ís, the MRC registered itís charitable funds with the Charity Commission as the ĎTrust Funds administered in connection with the Medical Research Councilí charity (registration number 250696).
In September 2011, the current trustees set up a new charitable company with a modern governance structure known as the Medical Research Foundation (registration number 1138226) and in April 2011 the MRCís charitable funds were transferred to this new charity. Through the Medical Research Foundation, the giving public can continue support the work of the MRC and more of the high quality research and research training that the MRC supports so successfully.
