MRC at the Edinburgh International Science Festival 2006
The Edinburgh Science Festival took place from 5 – 16 April 2006.

The MRC is a Science Festival sponsor and the two MRC Units in Edinburgh – the Human Genetics Unit (HGU) and the Human Reproductive Sciences Unit (HRSU) – joined forces to run a series of workshops entitled DNA Detectives which aimed to help young people learn about genes, hormones and human health.
The workshops took place at the Wonderama family venue, and over the 10 days of the event a total of 12,202 parents, grandparents and children took part. The activities were staffed by PhD students from both Units and proved to be enormously popular with visitors.
The words of one happy parent express the success of the event: “I took my boys, aged 6 and 8 years, to Wonderama…..
“They particularly enjoyed the opportunity to talk to and learn from ‘real scientists’ – the staff at the MRC stand were especially impressive.”
Plans are already well underway for an even better performance next year. For more information on the Edinburgh Science Festival, see their website.
