Purpose of the Conference
The NHS contains a wealth of longitudinal health data from cradle to grave on the UK’s 62m population. No other country has such a large and rich source of data on the health of its people. In addition, the UK has invested in many large population and disease cohorts which contain repeat measures of biological information as well as lifestyle and environmental factors on the thousands of people who participate in these studies. The potential of using this patient and research data places the UK in an unrivalled position in global health research.
This two day conference, sponsored by 10 major funders will bring together leading researchers, the NHS and industry. The aim is to understand how we can realise the unparalleled opportunities for clinical, health services, social and public health research offered by the UK’s routine and research health data. The event will:
• launch the recently funded e-health informatics research Centres based in London, Swansea, Manchester and Dundee, and the UK informatics research Network;
• include talks from leading UK and international speakers including Professor Don Detmer (University of Virginia), Professor Samuel Thier (Harvard University) and Professor Isaac Kohane (Boston Children’s Hospital);
• explore the opportunities for developing health informatics research across the UK;
• provide networking opportunities with leading UK researchers, the NHS and industry.
Places are limited, so register early to be part of this exciting event.
