Professor Sally Macintyre
Director of MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit
The MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit aims to promote human health via the study of social and environmental influences on health. More specific objectives are:
1. To study how people's social positions, and their social and physical environments, influence their physical and mental health and capacity to lead healthy lives;
2. To design and evaluate interventions aiming to improve public health and reduce social inequalities in health;
3. To influence policy and practice by communicating the results and implications of research to a wide range of audiences.
The unit is jointly funded by the MRC and the Chief Scientist Office at the Scottish Executive Department of Health.
