MRC Centre for Developmental Neurobiology at KCL
Professor Andrew Lumsden
Director of the MRC Centre for Developmental Neurobiology
The mission of the centre is to understand the early events during brain development and, through this to increase the knowledge of mechanisms that lead to malformation and that limit regenerative processes in the human nervous system.
This understanding will be advanced through collaborative multi-disciplinary studies using a variety of model organisms. Specifically studies will be directed at: (i) the elucidation of the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the rostral brain;(ii) the exploration of the molecular controls of neurogenesis and neuronal determination;(iii) understanding how different subregions of the brain acquire their identity and spatial arrangements of cell types;(iv) the exploration of the molecular controls of axonal growth, guidance and synapse function;(v) describing cellular interactions during induction, patterning and connectivity in terms of the signals, signalling pathways and gene regulatory mechanisms.
