Formalin fixed tissues and paraffin embedded blocks from 700 brains, mostly with neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease, Frontotemporal lobar degeneration, Lewy body disorders, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s disease and Down’s syndrome. Frozen tissue available from about 2/3 cases |

DNA can be extracted by requester’s from frozen tissue. |

Alzheimer’s disease, Frontotemporal lobar degeneration, Lewy body disorders, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s disease and Down’s syndrome. Some aged, but cognitively intact elderly subjects. |

Post mortem reports and brief demographic details are available for all cases, though full clinical histories are not available for most cases. |

Applications for tissues can be made through BDR website or directly to Brain Bank. Only a small minority of cases are presently designated as ‘BDR brains’ – ie having been collected through BDR consenting procedures and/or registered on BDR website. |
