The Mary Lyon Centre
MRC Harwell is a multi-disciplinary, integrated campus, funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC), dedicated to research using the mouse as a model for human disease. Through the Mary Lyon Centre (MLC,) Harwell offers specialist services to the life science, clinical research and biopharmaceutical industry and academic researchers. Our scientists and technical staff in the MLC and Mammalian Genetics Unit (MGU) include a wide range of experts in genetics, pathology, mutagenesis, transgenics and quality animal management.
Other services provided:
The MLC offers a portfolio of services that includes all aspects of husbandry such as import, health screening, technical procedures, breeding and archiving. For the development of new mouse models we offer the latest technologies in transgenics and mutagenesis, supported by a pipeline of embryonic and adult animal testing. This includes imaging, histology, clinical chemistry, metabolic and behavioural tests, and pathology. We also host an internationally recognised mouse archive facilitating third party access to existing and novel models being developed at Harwell and other institutes. Our team has a long track record of delivering high health status, pathogen free mice for genetic and preclinical research.
