Lifelong Health and Wellbeing Phase 3 funding

A total of £11.5M funding has been announced by the Lifelong Health and Wellbeing cross council programme (LLHW) to support 17 innovative research proposals aimed at tackling major ageing-related issues faced by the UK in the 21st century.
The UK’s population is rapidly ageing. By 2034, 23 per cent of the population is projected to be aged 65 and over. The LLHW initiative was launched in 2008 to support multidisciplinary research addressing determinants across the life course that influence health and wellbeing in later life. The initiative which has invested £30m to date is led by the MRC on behalf of the BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC and AHRC in partnership with the four UK health departments.
The awards which include short-term pilot studies and longer-duration research grants covering topics ranging from changes in ageing tissues, vaccination, falls and the outdoor environment and ageing and creative arts, are funded for a two to five year period.
