Funding and activities

Since November 2011 the LLHW programme has been scoping the focus for joint funding initiatives that will implement the key priorities of the ‘Strategy for Collabortive Ageing Research in the UK’. Calls for funding are now available in several priority areas on the MRC calls for proposals page and other Research Council websites.
Current calls for proposals:
- Extending working lives – Following consultation with policy makers, business and academic researchers, the Medical Research Council (MRC) and Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) have announced a coordinated package of funding aimed at investigating critical issues that will better prepare the UK for an ageing workforce. Interdisciplinary research proposals are sought to develop a greater understanding of the determinants of working later in life and the relationship between health, work and wellbeing of older workers. Research funding is available to support a) Academic Research Consortia, and b) Research Partnerships Awards between academics, employers and policy stakeholders. In addition, the Research Councils are hosting a Partnership Building Workshop to facilitate the development of cross-sector partnerships between academics, employers and policy, and to explore innovative research approaches to address key issues that relate to the ageing workforce.
Closing date for Expressions of Interest to attend the workshop: 5th September 2012
Closing date for outline proposals: 4th December 2012
