MRC Autism Research Forums
In 2003/04 the MRC held a forum of four workshops involving scientists, parents and organisations working within autism. Each workshop focused on a key area of our strategy for increasing understanding of autism through innovative research.
Meeting reports are available for each topic by following the appropriate link.
- Gut and the Developing Child: Disordered gut function in children, with particular reference to children with autism spectrum disorders.
- Brain and the Mind: Neuropsychology and neuroimaging, with particular reference to children with autism spectrum disorders.
- Autism in Populations: Epidemiological methods in research into autism spectrum disorders.
- Interventions in Autism: The use of interventions in research into autism spectrum disorders.
After the forum, we encouraged scientists to develop and submit proposals for research into autism, particularly in the areas discussed at the event.
Following the success of this pilot initiative, a second autism forum was held in 2005 in partnership with the National Autism Society.
