About the Regulatory Support Centre

The Regulatory Support Centre (RSC) was established in 2006 to help the MRC and wider scientific community implement legislative and good practice requirements relating to research involving human participants, their tissues or data. We have been awarded funding until March 2015.

About us

The Regulatory Support Centre provides support to the “MRC family” in its widest sense (whether researchers are based within an MRC Unit or Institute, University Unit or are MRC grant-holders working within a University). RSC provide training, advice, facilitate the sharing of good practice, and feed into policy development. We also serve the wider research community through the production and maintenance of high quality web-based tools and e-learning; and through involvement in UKCRC regulatory and governance activities.

The RSC works in collaboration to deliver the following key areas of work:

Training The RSC develops and delivers regulation, ethics and governance related training to MRC units, and works in collaboration to synergise UK wide training.

RSC Tools While researchers remain responsible for meeting regulatory requirements, the RSC works with regulators, MRC units or Institutes, University Units and the wider UK research community to share and develop practical tools in this often complex area. Additional information is available in the policy and guidance section.

Advice MRC researchers can submit regulation, ethics and governance questions to the Regulatory Support Centre at submit a question. We also offer a consultancy service which provides practical advice on compliance with the human tissue legislation.

Representing the Research Community The next few years will be an exciting time for the UK regulatory and governance environment, and we will work with the research community to influence and respond to these changes. The RSC also represents the MRC and the UK research community on a number of national committees, during specific consultations, and liaises on their behalf with relevant regulatory or governance bodies.
