About the Regulatory Support Centre

The Regulatory Support Centre (RSC) was established in 2006 to help the MRC and wider scientific community implement legislative and good practice requirements relating to research involving human participants, their tissues or data.

The RSC works in collaboration to deliver the following key areas of work:

RSC Tools While researchers remain responsible for meeting regulatory requirements, the RSC works with regulators, MRC units, institutes and the wider UK research community to share and develop practical tools in this often complex area. Additional information is available in the policy and guidance section.

Advice MRC researchers can submit regulation, ethics and governance questions to the Regulatory Support Centre at submit a question. We also provide face to face Q&A sessions for MRC researchers on request. The UKCRC Regulatory and Governance Advice Service has now closed. For non-MRC researchers regulatory and governance advice can be obtained from your local R&D department or direct from a UK regulatory, governance or policy-making body.

Training The RSC develops and delivers regulation, ethics and governance related training to MRC units, and works in collaboration to synergise UK wide training.

Representing the Research Community The RSC also represents the MRC and the UK research community on a number of national committees, during specific consultations, and liaises on their behalf with relevant regulatory or governance bodies.
