Information about Europe PubMed Central

The European Research Council (ERC) announced on 13 July 2012 that it would participate in the UK PubMed Central (UKPMC) open access repository service, joining 18 existing UK and European funders. As a result of this participation, the existing funders have agreed that the service will be rebranded as 'Europe PubMed Central' (Europe PMC) by 1 November 2012.

This page will be updated soon.

The MRC is part of an initiative led by the Wellcome Trust, in association with a number of other UK biomedical funders, which have established a UK version of PubMed Central, UK PubMed Central (UKPMC).

UKPMC is based on PubMed Central and provides researchers with quick and easy access to a large collection of biomedical and health research literature arising from research funded by members of the UKPMC funders Group, including the MRC. The upgraded online digital archive allows researchers easier and greater access to research data. Researchers can now also search and link information from literature and drill down into underlying datasets in new and innovative ways.

The new UKPMC site now allows access to:

  • Search over 19 million + PubMed abstracts
  • 1.8 + million full text research articles, from UK PubMed Central
  • Discover who is citing who, find related data resources and browse summaries of key terms
  • Access additional content including biological patents, National Health Service (NHS) clinical guidelines, UK Biomedical and health PhD theses and research reports

The contract to run UKPMC was awarded to a partnership between the British Library, the University of Manchester and the European Bioinformatics Institute. The MRC is a major funder of UKPMC.
