MRC Open Council Meeting 2009 your chance to be heard
27 November 2009
The Medical Research Council (MRC) will be hosting its annual Open Council meeting this year at the MacDonald Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh on 15 December.
In 2008/09 the MRC invested more than £65 million to support medical and health research in Scotland and committed a further £28million to create a new Centre for Virology Research in Glasgow.
Although, as a body covering the whole of the UK, the MRC is funded by a grant in aid from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, the meeting will represent an opportunity for MSPs and other interested parties to contribute to discussions about the crucial health research that MRC funds throughout Scotland.
The meeting will be an opportunity to probe topics such as:
- Whether the MRC is engaging sufficiently with Scotland and on issues that matter to the Scottish population
- How the MRC has spent its budget over the past year
- What the MRC’s priorities will be going forward
- Whether the MRC is responding appropriately to the flu pandemic
- How the MRC is fostering skills required for the future
The meeting will also be an opportunity to meet the MRC’s Chief Executive, Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, and Chairman, Sir John Chisholm, as well as the MRC Council and Management Board.
The meeting is open to interested parties. If you would like to attend, contact Ellen Doughty on 0207 670 5017 or at ellen.doughty@headoffice.mrc.ac.uk. Numbers may be limited owing to space. Only those registered will be admitted.
Date: Tuesday, 15 December 2009, 2pm-4pm
Location: Macdonald Holyrood Hotel, 81 Holyrood Road, Edinburgh, EH8 8AU
