Changes to MRC clinical trials funding arrangements
The MRC and the NIHR are to work together to support excellent clinical science to improve health and patient care. As part of these new arrangements, the Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme, will be launched.
The remit of this includes late phase clinical trials and evaluative studies, which further knowledge in biological or behavioural mechanisms and processes, explore new principles, evaluate clinical efficacy and test methodologies.
Working mainly in responsive mode, EME will complement the already established NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme – which will continue to provide information about the effectiveness, costs and broader impacts of health technologies.
