NCRI Lung Cancer and Supportive and Palliative Care Research: Call for Outline Proposals

In 2006, the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) lung cancer strategic planning group identified the need to strengthen research on supportive and palliative care requirements of lung cancer patients. Dedicated funds (£2.25m) have now been pledged by NCRI partners to support a call for proposals in research in this area. The focus of this initiative is in two broad areas in which interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged:

  • Symptom management with a focus on improving the patient experience.
  • Studies targeted to assessing the effectiveness of difference service models for patient follow-up.

The funding will be flexible to suit the needs of the proposed research, and may be used to support projects to develop interventions, pilot trials or work leading up to randomised controlled trials. With the funds available, it is unlikely to be possible to support large-scale trials at this time.

There will be a two-stage application procedure involving an outline stage followed by full proposals. Further details of this initiative is available on the Marie Curie website.

Closing Date for outline applications: 7th December, 2007.
