Call for proposals: National Prevention Research Initiative Phase 2
Following the success of the first funding round, NPRI announces Phase 2 with a second call for outline proposals.
Phase 2 will focus on research relating to risk reduction and/or health behaviour – specifically tobacco use, alcohol misuse, diet and/or physical activity including their relation to weight management and obesity.
The research must aim towards the primary prevention of cancer, coronary heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
Proposals relating to multiple health behaviours or health outcomes will be received positively, although disease endpoints do not need to be measured or available.
In addition, proposals with a particular relevance to deprived communities and/or the differential impact of universal services on different socio-economic groups will be especially welcomed.
- For further detailed information on this call, please see ‘Call for Proposals’ on the MRC website.
About the NPRI
The National Prevention Research Initiative (NPRI) was established in 2004 in recognition that chronic disease prevention is a major research priority which must be informed by evidence of successful and cost-effective risk reduction and behaviour intervention.
The NPRI is sponsored by a broad consortium of funders including: British Heart Foundation; Cancer Research UK; Department of Health; Diabetes UK; Economic and Social Research Council; Food Standards Agency; Medical Research Council; Research and Development Office for the Northern Ireland Health and Social Services; Chief Scientist Office, Scottish Executive Health Department; The Stroke Association, Welsh Assembly Government; and World Cancer Research Fund.
The NPRI welcomes approaches from other organisations wishing to join the consortium to help grow the Initiative.
