Dr Iain McNeish

MRC senior clinical fellow at Barts and The London School of Medicine.

Dr Iain McNeish is an MRC fellow researching how engineered viruses can be used to deliver new forms of gene therapy for ovarian cancer.

Iain combines his research with being an oncologist at Barts and The London.

“My MRC Senior Clinical Fellowship is a fantastic way of combining research and clinical work. It is allowing me to firmly establish my group and our research projects, and gives me a springboard from which to apply for other funding, including the kind of grants I’ll continue to need when my Fellowship ends in a few years’ time.

“I started doing research almost as soon as I left medical school, getting MRC funding for my PhD – but I always wanted to keep doing clinical work as well. After a couple of Clinician Scientist awards from Cancer Research UK, I was immensely pleased to get an MRC Senior Fellowship. It maintained the momentum of my research, allowed me to start some new projects straight away, has enabled me to increase the proportion of my time spent at the bench and supports two of the eight people in my lab.”
