Emily Davies

MRC industry CASE student at the University of Bristol.
Emily Davies is an MRC-funded PhD student whose MRC Industry CASE Award has allowed her to spend eight months on a placement at GlaxoSmithKline.
Emily is approaching the end her research studying the physiology of pain at the University of Bristol.
“Doing an industry placement early on in my PhD gave me broader knowledge of the field and valuable experience using the latest technology. Coming back to the university, I was more focused on my aims and I’ve got more confidence driving my own research.
“The time I spent working in industry has highlighted the benefits of industrial and academic collaborations, and I will certainly aim to make new collaborations with industry in my new postdoctoral role at the University of Cambridge.
“The industry collaboration provided me with additional intellectual input, experimental support in terms of equipment and funding, and establishing contacts within the field that have furthered my career. I was given support from my industrial supervisor throughout my PhD, including the writing up stage.”
