Heart, lung and inflammation

Coronary heart disease and other types of heart failure are together the biggest killer in the UK. Stroke is the biggest cause of disability in the UK and the third most common cause of death. MRC scientists are carrying out clinical trials to test treatments for these conditions, as well as trying to understand the underlying biological mechanisms. Smoking and its link to heart and lung conditions have been well-studied by MRC researchers.
