Ageing
To allow the ageing population to enjoy quality of life as well as longevity, research on ageing and age-related disease is a priority for MRC, Government and other research funders. Over the 20th century there was a dramatic increase in life expectancy, and one of the challenges now in performing ageing research is recognising the breadth of scientific, medical and social science issues involved. Scientists are pursuing three main avenues of research: quality of life, frailty – the weakening of the body with age – and the ageing brain.
