Young drug abusers suffer Alzheimer’s brain damage

Young people who abuse heroin and methadone intravenously are up to three times more likely to suffer brain damage than those who don’t use these drugs, MRC researchers at have shown. This damage to the brain is similar to the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, with key areas of the brain involved in learning, memory and emotions affected.
