Down’s mouse will help understand syndrome
Scientists funded by the MRC have produced the first mouse model for human Down Syndrome. The Down model will be an important tool for investigating the condition and other related disorders. People with Down Syndrome have three copies of chromosome 21 instead of the normal two, but scientists do not yet understand how the extra chromosome causes it. The mouse will also be useful for investigating other conditions in which individuals have the wrong number of chromosomes.
