Cannabis and MS – largest trial ever finds no measurable benefit

Researchers funded by the MRC and supported by the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society found little objective evidence that the use of cannabis-derived medicine benefits people with MS. However a majority of trial patients did feel that the cannabis-based treatment eased their symptoms. The study urged caution in interpreting the findings, pointing out that there was a strong placebo effect at work, but concluded that patients experienced few side-effects from the treatments and, given that how a patient feels is an important part of improving health, cannabis-based treatments may be of benefit to some patients.
