Proteins team up to block cancer
Researchers have demonstrated that two cell cycle proteins previously thought to work independently – CHFR and PML – actually collaborate to control cell division and prevent the multiplication of cancerous cells. The team, from the MRC’s Cancer Cell Unit, found that drugs such as Taxol work through these proteins to block cancer. The discovery may improve understanding of how cancer treatments work and why some tumours become resistant to them.
