Children as young as eight benefit from dental braces

The fitting of corrective dental braces for children with prominent front (‘buck’) teeth can significantly improve confidence and self-esteem. The problem is usually corrected with a dental brace when children become teenagers as it was thought that braces on younger children would have a detrimental affect on bone development. However children may have already have suffered years of teasing and bullying by this stage. The MRC trial at the University of Manchester shows that braces can be successfully used in children as young as eight, and that this in turn significantly improves their confidence and self-esteem.
