SSR: About Us

The Corporate SSR team is responsible for central planning, policy development and compliance assurance and also provides a unit support role. Each member of the team has expertise in a particular scientific discipline (chemistry, radiation, microbiology, genetic modification) as well as a range of different SSR competencies which may be called upon by any unit.

The MRC’s units in The Gambia and Uganda are served by the whole team with their needs aligned to team member competencies.

Working with the Corporate SSR Team are unit safety coordinators, radiation supervisors and biological safety officers. Except in the largest establishments these are usually part-time positions. There is also the need to promote and nurture links with university and other stakeholder safety staff to agree working relationships and common standards.
